This past week, we had the opportunity to give a talk about our practice to a group of about thirty artists and designers at the Merchandise Mart. It was our first public speaking event - a milestone for Sculpturelandia!
On the train ride there, my nerves were at an all-time high, but somewhere between stations, I decided to let go and let it be fun. In that moment, I decided to take it as a learning opportunity, no matter how it went, because otherwise, what are we doing here?!
That shift in mindset is something I’ve been working on more broadly, and it is especially relevant to studio work. The truth is, this is a path I choose every single day. And if I’m choosing the path, I can also choose how I move through it.
I haven’t listened back to the recording we made of our talk yet, but I will this upcoming week. I’m sure I will cringe, but I hear that a lot can be waiting on the other side of cringe.
Anyway, I want to share a few slides from the talk with you. I won’t go into depth about the content here, the talk was 45 minutes! You just had to be there…

We talked about how we make decisions as a concept-driven practice and showed off the homepage of our new (and under construction) website!

We talked through some of our originating wispy ideas for the Atom Chair and the Snake Chair.

Atom Chairs on the left, Snake Chairs on the right.
I want to send a shout-out to the team at IDSA Women in Design Chicago, who invited us to speak and did such a good job coordinating the whole event.
Be on the lookout for another update next week about a new project we’re working on in the studio!
Much Love,
Olivia & Remy
